Amongst the wonderful things I enjoy in Devon and Cornwall is the wildlife. I particularly enjoy the birds along the coast and in recent years have taken to carving and painting shore birds such as curlews and oystercatchers often using driftwood.
The carved decoy is a popular genre in American folk art, originally inspired by Native American decoys made from rushes.
The aim is to attract passing fowl from a distance and the carvings are therefore generally stylized in both shape and decoration.
